About Woodcrest

Andy Bechtolsheim about Woodcrest:

AMD Opteron has stronger floating point performance than Woodcrest and thus is the best solution for high-performance technical and scientific applications. In addition, Opteron scales to 4-socket and 8-socket systems that Woodcrest does not address at all. Larger node sizes are critical for virtualization and enterprise application servers."

And in addition there are some signs that Woodcrest is extremly dependant on a small dataset (less or equal to cache size of 4 MB). As several people stated before: The Core Design seems to be a very decent design, but it´s buried in an inadaequate surrounding plattform.
