Joseph Weizenbaum

One of biggest luminaries of the computing science and a vocal critic of modern culture died the fifth of March at the age of 88 resulting from a stroke. He wrote in one of his last mails:

Our death is the last service we can provide to the world: If we wouldn't keep out of the way the following generations, they wouldn´t need to re-create human culture. Culture would become fixed, immutable, thus die. And with the death of culture all humane would also perish.

Unser Tod ist der letzte Service, den wir der Welt leisten können: würden wir nicht aus dem Weg gehen, würden die uns folgenden Generationen die menschliche Kultur nicht wieder frisch erstellen müssen. Sie würde starr, unveränderlich werden, also sterben. Und mit dem Tod der Kultur würde alles Menschliche auch untergehen.
