Speedbumped UltraSPARC T1
The speedbumped 1.4 GHz version reached the benchmarks: You will find the respective comparisions at BMseers. I find some observations really noticable:
- You need 24 GHz on Xeon to be as fast as an 11.2 GHz on UltraSPARC T1.
- At SPECweb2005 doubling the amount of cores in the Xeon world gives you only round about 25 percent more performance (compare HP/Proliant DL380 G5 and Dell/PowerEdge 2950) . Looks like a scalability problem on the Xeon plattform.
And Niagara II isn´t that far in the future. I think this will give us a very solid lead for the forseeable future. The last benchmark lead endured for over a year.
