How about Transparent huge pages like on Linux?
Having to pre-load a library and measuring dTLB misses till the right page size is found seems a bit… backward.
Is it possible that your knowledge about Solaris is a bit ... outdated? There are large page tables out of the box since Solaris 10 U1. Since 2007 when my memory serves me right. Without preloading libraries.
